We pick you up from your hotel in Cairo in the morning and drive south to Memphis, which was the first capital of ancient Egypt. Not many parts of the old city are still standing today, but that's what makes it so interesting. Your Egyptologist guide explains how important Memphis used to be, and you stroll through the remaining monuments, like the large statue of Ramses II that's lying on its back. It's a calm and gentle beginning to the day.
From Memphis, we head to Dahshur, where the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid are located in the open desert, often with very few people around. Your guide talks about how the builders tested new ideas here, adjusting the angle of the Bent Pyramid partway up and eventually getting the shape correct with the Red Pyramid. Stroll around, take some pictures, and if you want to, step inside the Red Pyramid.
After that, we go to the Nile for a one-hour sail on a felucca, which is a great way to relax and cool off after being in the desert. Sit back, enjoy the gentle wind, and watch the river flow by from a classic sailing boat. After the ride is finished, we will take you back to your hotel in Cairo.
