Our representative will meet you at any location in Cairo or Giza to begin your Day Tour to Saqqara. We will pick you up from your hotel or any convenient place and take you in an exclusive vehicle for your Cairo day tour to Saqqara and its various historical sites.

Saqqara is home to the oldest pyramid ever built, attributed to the Egyptian civilization, which draws many tourists.During the tour, you will visit the step pyramids of Saqqara.Unlike the Giza pyramids, which are built with massive stone blocks, the pyramids at Saqqara have a core made of rubble or rough broken stones. With the help of his brilliant architect, King Djoser, the Step Pyramid was constructed. It consists of six steps and is the first significant cut-stone building of its kind in the world.

You will also visit the pyramid of Unas, the last king of the Fifth Dynasty. His pyramid was the first to have its chambers or rooms adorned with pyramid texts. Although it is the smallest of the three pyramids and the smallest from the Old Kingdom period, it is distinguished by its unique character due to Pyramid Texts found inside its chambers.

Unas built his pyramid between Sekhemket and Djoser, in the northern part of Saqqara. When Gaston Maspero discovered inscribed texts in the pyramids of Pep I and Merener I, he later found similar texts on the walls of Unas’s pyramid. The pyramid of Unas has a six-step structure and was built using limestone blocks.

One of the most important tombs in Saqqara is Idut.It belonged to a princess who lived towards the end of the Fifth Dynasty and the beginning of the Sixth. She was a member of the royal family. The tomb is famous for its colorful depictions of daily life, including scenes of butchering, fishing, farming, papyrus harvesting, scribes, and a statue of the princess.

Following Pharaoh Unas, the Pyramid of Teti was constructed during the Sixth Dynasty. It was built from closely spaced stone blocks encased in fine limestone.Because of earthquakes and natural changes, the pyramid today resembles a natural hill, but its substructure remains intact.Mereruka was a minister during the reign of King Teti in the Sixth Dynasty.

He was one of the most powerful figures of the time, as local state nobles were gaining increasing influence. He is buried in the mastaba associated with Teti’s pyramid. This tomb is adorned with numerous exquisite scenes that provide insight into life during the Old Kingdom. You will also visit the tomb of Serapeum, which consists of two long corridors. Originally, it housed the mummified remains of bulls and is accessible via an avenue of sphinxes.

The Imhotep Museum, named after the ancient Egyptian architect, showcases artifacts from Saqqara, archaeological finds, and Egyptian art. The exhibits include wooden and stone vessels, statues, stelae, ancient construction tools, building components, and burial objects dating back from the 6th Dynasty to the New Kingdom. Finally, your tour will conclude with a return to your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
