We pick you up from your hotel in Aswan very early in the morning and drive north to Luxor by private car. It’s about three and a half hours along the Nile valley, so sit back and watch the farms, villages and palm groves go by. The early start gives you the whole day in Luxor, and it’s worth it.
Our first stop is Karnak Temple, the biggest religious complex in Egypt, and it’s hard to take in all at once. You walk down avenues lined with ram-headed sphinxes and between the giant columns of the Great Hypostyle Hall, while your guide tells you how generations of kings kept adding to it for over a thousand years. Then we visit Luxor Temple, right in the middle of the city. It’s smaller but beautifully kept, with tall columns, huge statues of Ramses II and a calm, elegant feel.
After that we go to Luxor Museum, a small, well-arranged museum with some of the finest pieces found around Thebes. It’s easy to enjoy even if you’re tired, and your guide points out the statues worth stopping for. When the visit is over, we drive you back to Aswan and drop you at your hotel.
