Your Private Day

Day 1

Day 1: Cairo to Alexandria - The Roman Ruins

Based on the pick-up time agreed with your tour operator, our accredited tour guide will meet you at any location in Cairo to accompany you on a private, air-conditioned vehicle for your budget overnight tour to Alexandria. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours, including a stop for a short walk, during which your guide will provide you with historical insights along the way until you arrive in Alexandria.

Upon arrival, your tour will begin with a visit to Pompey's Pillar, an impressive architectural structure located at the heart of the remains of the Alexandrian Serapeum.

The Serapeum was a grand temple during the Greek period in Egypt, mainly constructed during the Ptolemaic era, and was dedicated to the god Serapis, who was considered the guardian of Alexandria.

Next, you will visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, one of the largest Roman catacombs.

These catacombs were originally carved for royal Pharaonic purposes and later took on a Roman character. They were used until the end of the 4th century AD and were then abandoned. The catacombs are six meters in diameter and about 10 meters deep, with a surrounding cylindrical water well and a staircase leading down to three levels of catacombs.

You will then be taken to the main Corniche street, offering a stunning view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Here, you will enjoy a lunch meal (not included) featuring the freshest seafood at one of Alexandria's most luxurious restaurants. While dining, you can take in the view of the old harbor and savor a glass of lemon mint juice before being transferred to your hotel for check-in and an overnight stay.

If you wish to explore the city at night, your private tour guide can meet you for a walk and to sample some of the famous desserts that Alexandria is known for.

Day 2

Day 2: Qaitbay Citadel - Alexandria Bibliotheca - Back to Cairo

Have your lunch at the hotel and meet your tour guide and personal driver to begin another exciting day trip in Alexandria. Today, you will experience something quite different from yesterday. You will visit the Citadel of Qaitbay, which was built on the remains of the ancient Lighthouse of Pharos, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Unfortunately, the lighthouse was destroyed due to a severe earthquake in the 6th century, and many of the ancient buildings and monuments in the city were either lost or submerged under the sea. The exact appearance of the original lighthouse is unknown, but the Mamluk Sultan Qaitbay built the Citadel on its strong foundation to create a defensive stronghold against the Ottoman Empire.

As you travel back to Cairo, you will make a stop at the modern Library of Alexandria, which opened to the public in 1996 with the support of UNESCO.

This new library was created to replace the ancient one, which was founded in the early 3rd century B.C. by Ptolemy I and later expanded by his son, Ptolemy II.

On the way back to Cairo, we will stop for a hot drink at one of the shopping malls located along the route, which takes about two hours.

We hope you enjoyed your overnight trip to Alexandria from Cairo.
