A Journey to the Oracle of Ammon and Salt Lakes
Located deep in the Western Desert, Siwa Oasis is a unique ecosystem with a culture and language of its own. Learn about the ancient Shali Fortress, the temple where Alexander the Great consulted the Oracle, the thermal Cleopatra's Pool, and the surreal floating experience in the hyper-saline salt lakes.
The Ancient Shali Fortress
Rising dramatically from the center of Siwa town, the ruined mud-brick Shali Fortress dates back to the 13th century. It was largely destroyed by three days of heavy rain in 1926. Climb to the top at sunset for a breathtaking 360-degree view over the oasis, the salt lakes, and the surrounding golden sand dunes.
Cleopatra's Pool & Salt Lakes
Cleopatra's Pool (Ain Guba) is a natural freshwater spring where locals and visitors have bathed for thousands of years. Nearby, the hyper-saline Lake Siwa and Birket Siwa offer a unique floating experience even better than the Dead Sea. The high salt concentration means you can effortlessly float while reading a book.
