Day 1: Giza Pyramids - Saqqara – Memphis
Day 1: Giza Pyramids - Saqqara – Memphis
When you arrive at Cairo International Airport, our Cairo Top Tours representative will be waiting for you with a signboard displaying your name. They will accompany you to your hotel in Cairo or Giza using a private vehicle. Upon arrival at the hotel, you will check in with the help of our agent. If it is not yet check-in time, you can leave your luggage and proceed to the Giza Necropolis with your English-speaking tour guide to start your Giza Pyramids tour.
You will stand near the only remaining wonder of the seven ancient wonders, the Great Pyramid of King Cheops.
Built around 4500 years ago, it was intended as an eternal home for the semi-divine king. This structure stands at a height of 146 meters and each side measures 230 meters, illustrating the incredible skill and advanced knowledge of ancient Egyptian kings. The stone blocks used in its construction are believed to have been cut and transported from nearby quarries, with each block weighing between 5 to 25 tons.
You will then head to the high plateau for a panoramic view of the three pyramids, including those of King Chephren and King Mycerinus, alongside the queen’s pyramids near the smallest pyramid.
This area also holds evidence of the beautiful outer casing on the lower 16 rows. Your Bedouin guide will take excellent photos as you enjoy a camel ride around the Giza Pyramids (an optional activity), followed by a visit to the magnificent Sphinx of Giza, which is part of the pyramid complex of King Chephren. The Sphinx is believed to have been built in the king’s image, symbolizing his power as both a lion and a wise human, with a lion's body and a human head.
The Valley Temple of Chephren is located nearby and was carved from the bedrock.
This was the place where the royal body was mummified as part of the funeral rituals.
You will have lunch at one of the most beautiful restaurants with a view of the pyramids and the Sphinx.
Afterward, your tour continues to the area of Saqqara, the necropolis of an earlier period, roughly 200 years before the great kings who built the three pyramids in Giza. Here, you will see the first-ever stone pyramid, the Step Pyramid, built by the genius architect Imhotep for his King Djoser. This pyramid is made up of six rectangular steps stacked on top of each other, with a burial pit located 20 meters below. You will have the opportunity to explore the original enclosure walls and the hep-sed court, where the king would renew his sovereignty over the kingdom by gathering the rulers of the nomes to reaffirm his role as both king and semi-god for the next 30 years.
You will also have the chance to enter the pyramid of King Teti, who ruled Egypt during the 6th dynasty, and explore the tomb of his son-in-law Kagemni.
The tomb features intricate scenes depicting various animals, fish, and birds, illustrating daily hunting activities, all carved with remarkable precision. These carvings are well-preserved, retaining their original colors.
Your next stop will be the former capital of Egypt, the ancient city of Memphis, now an open-air museum.
Here, you will see many artifacts and statues of King Ramses II, including the second-largest sphinx in Egypt's history, made of alabaster.
After completing your Cairo tours for the first day of your 2-Day Tour in Cairo, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
You have the option to enjoy one of our evening activities, such as the Sound and Light Show at the Giza Pyramids or a fancy Nile Dinner Cruise in Cairo.
Included Meal: Lunch.
Day 2
Day 2: Saladin Citadel - Coptic Cairo - Khan El-Khalili
Day 2: Saladin Citadel - Coptic Cairo - Khan El-Khalili
After enjoying your breakfast at the hotel, you will be greeted by your expert Egyptologist guide to begin your exciting Islamic and Coptic Cairo tour. Your journey starts with the Citadel of Saladin, located in the heart of Cairo. This fortification was constructed by the renowned Muslim leader Saladin El-Ayyubi in the 12th century as a defense against raids by the Crusaders. The Citadel houses many buildings, but the most significant one is the Mosque of Mohamed Ali. As you see it, you will feel as though you have traveled to Istanbul, due to the strong influence of Turkish architectural style on its design. Mohamed Ali was brought to Egypt by the Ottoman Sultan from Albania with the intention of removing the French occupation. However, once he accomplished that, he began to take control of the country and expelled the mercenaries, known as the Mamluks, to rule alone in 1805. The mosque is also known as the Alabaster Mosque because of the large amount of white alabaster used both inside and outside the structure.
You will then move to the area of Old Cairo to begin your Coptic Cairo tour.
You will visit the site of the Roman Fortress of Babylon, which is now mostly in ruins, except for its base where the Hanging Church of the Holy Virgin Mary was built, suspended over two towers of the fortress. You will also visit the Holy Cave Church, dedicated to Saint . Serius and the oldest Synagogue of Ben Ezra, which was originally a Christian church before being sold to a wealthy Jewish man named Ben Ezra.
After your lunch, you will be transferred to enjoy a Cairo shopping tour in the famous market of Khan El-Khalili.
While there, you will have a mint tea or a refreshing fresh mango juice at a local café, and you will get to watch the vibrant street life andVendor activity in the Al-Hussein area and streets. Your guide will also point out some interesting buildings from earlier times during your Islamic Cairo tour along Al-Moez Street.
You will then be transferred to any drop-off location of your choice, marking the end of our service.
Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
